Why We Lobby

Our future depends on regulation, let's make sure it's great.

For the past decade, the information profession has largely relied on its' largest companies for lobbying efforts to support our industry's best interests. Previously, our professional associations had lobbying divisions to advocate for the profession, but as the Association business declined, lobbying was one of the first things that both associations cut. Before our announcement, there was no organization truly lobbying for the best interests of the entirety of the information profession.

While Microsoft and many others have done a great job of picking up the slack and stepping into the lobbying chasm left behind by the departures of AIIM and ARMA (and we remain thankful for their steadfast leadership and wide advocacy), it remains a ridiculous state of affairs that an industry that is so reliant on compliance and regulation (think of the impact of EU's GDPR) has no official group lobbying the U.S. Government on their behalf. Today, we begin the work to change this.

InfoGov.net is now working to step into that gap and begin lobbying efforts that will support the information profession and actively begin lobbying in the United States (with hopes of future expansion). This effort will require funding and collaborative direction setting - starting in the Fall of 2022 we'll be gathering a small group of leaders to an invite-only InformationFest event, where we will be discussing the future of our profession and what is necessary for the ongoing progress of our profession. We can't wait to see you at InformationFest.
